Canskate Programs at the Fergus Skating Club

Children with very little or no skating experience.
Classes are 35 minutes in length and offered Monday and Wednesday,
A professionally developed program to introduce skaters to the ice using engaging and interactive lessons.
Focus is on basic movements such as pushing, gliding and stopping.
Group format led by NCCP, Skate Canada certified professional coach, assisted by trained program assistants.
Skaters must wear CSA approved hockey helmet and regular gloves or mittens.

Skating experience is required where skaters should be able to get up on the ice on their own, balance, and do basic glides.
Ages 5 and up - unless they have passed Pre-Canskate (ribbon) and recommended by coach. If a new skater, please sign up as Pre-Canskate.
Classes are 45 minutes, offered Monday and Friday.
Group format led by NCCP, Skate Canada certified professional coach assisted by trained program assistants.
Continued focus on fundamental skills of stopping, skating backwards, turning, control, agility, power.
Skaters are evaluated regularly and progress through the six stages at their own pace.
Badges, ribbons and report cards are given to skaters at the end of each season
Prepares skaters for hockey, ringette, figure skating and recreational skating.
Skaters must wear CSA approved hockey helmet and regular gloves or mittens.

Coaching tailored to individual skating ability during a small group lesson.
15 minutes of direct coaching during 30 minute session.

Passed Canskate Badge 3 or higher with an interest in figure skating (or as recommended by Professional coach).

Strongly encouraged 2 on ice classes per week
