Canskate Programs at the Fergus Skating Club

Pre-CanSkate 

• Children with very little or no skating experience.
• Classes are 30 minutes in length and offered  Wednesday and Friday
• Short 5 - 7 minute off ice warm up located in designated dressing room to practice and get comfortable in our skates
• A professionally developed program to introduce skaters to the ice using engaging and interactive lessons.
• Focus is on basic movements such as pushing, gliding and stopping.
• Group format led by NCCP, Skate Canada certified professional coach, assisted by trained program assistants.
• Skaters must wear CSA approved hockey helmet and regular gloves or mittens.

CanSkate

• Skating experience is required where skaters should be able to get up on the ice on their own, balance, and do basic glides.
• Ages 5 and up - unless they have passed Pre-Canskate (ribbon) and recommended by coach.  If a new skater, please sign up as Pre-Canskate.
• Classes are 40 minutes, offered Monday and Friday.
• Group format led by NCCP, Skate Canada certified professional coach assisted by trained program assistants.
• Continued focus on fundamental skills of stopping, skating backwards, turning, control, agility, power. 
• Skaters are evaluated regularly and progress through the six stages at their own pace.
• Badges, ribbons and report cards are given to skaters at the end of each season 
• Prepares skaters for hockey, ringette, figure skating and recreational skating.
• Skaters must wear CSA approved hockey helmet and regular gloves or mittens.
